Tim Shey

Tim Shey is an experienced creative leader with over two decades of experience in the tech and media industries. He joined Electrify Video Partners in 2025 as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board.

He is a former senior executive at Duolingo where he was VP of Original Content. He served on the exec leadership team that led Duolingo through its highest user and revenue growth phase to become a household name. He pioneered innovative AI-driven features, developed the company’s iconic characters and intellectual property, and led storytelling and production efforts including podcasts, video, animation, and interactive stories. Before Duolingo, Tim was the Head of Scripted Originals at YouTube, helping launch YouTube Originals and overseeing its premium offering with renowned studios like Lionsgate and Blumhouse. Additionally, as Director of YouTube Creators and YouTube Spaces, Tim played a pivotal role in developing YouTube’s Creator program, which has contributed to the explosive growth of the creator economy.

He previously co-founded and led product and creative for two industry-leading startups: Next New Networks, acquired by YouTube in 2011, and Proteus, acquired by Telitas in 2004.

Currently, in addition to his role with Electrify, Tim is working with companies in the creator economy, AI, and creative technology fields as an exec consultant, board member, and advisor, and investing as a venture partner at TMV, an early-stage venture firm backing mission-driven founders.
